I may not be first but i will be brief. I can feel the ambience just by looking at how the light hits over the face of the big lizard. The body is painted with a lot of details and very soft to avoid competing against the sharpness of the eye and the edge of the body stained with the light of far away fires.
I'm not a genius in composition, but I guess a different framing and lens perspective could have helped to give the scene a lot more drama.

Whoa! This is great. Really great I mean. So, I think it's a really powerful piece. I really like the use of the darks/black, but I think maybe to balance out the piece a little more that the right claw could use a little more black or darker colors. More dark would make the light part stand out even more so.
